William "Bill" Charles Casey, 97, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the Cedar Valley Hospice House of Waterloo.  He was born on May 20, 1922, in Faribault, Minnesota, son of Thomas and Mary (Rommel) Casey.  Bill entered the United States Army serving from February of 1943 – January of 1946.  Following an honorable discharge, Bill was married to Irene Bollenbach and they lived in Minnesota until moving to Waterloo, where Bill was employed at John Deere and, later, at Rath Packing Plant.  Bill and Irene opened Casey Coin Company in November of 1961 and retired in 1987. Son, Tim, took over the business and manages it to this day. Even when retired, Bill would go in a couple of days a week and Bill was proud to have Tim continue the family legacy.

Bill was preceded in death by his siblings, Mae (Leslie) Winsell, Dudley (Kathryn) Casey and Thomas (Eleanor) Casey; his son-in-law, Mark Coppock and great-granddaughters:  Hannah & Abigail.  He is survived by his wife, Irene; his sons, Tim (Sheila) Casey and Bill Casey; his daughters, Donna Thompson and Mary Coppock; grandchildren: Troy (Jan) Thompson, Jason (Molly) Thompson, Amy Casey, Lori (Mike) Kroeger, Sarah Casey, Lacey (Tom) Schultz, Kevin (Denise) Doyle, Michael Doyle, and Jennie (Kenny) Benke; 15 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Bill's funeral service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019, at 1:00 pm at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home of Cedar Falls with an hour of visitation prior.  Burial with Military Honors will be at Garden of Memories followed by luncheon at Casey's 218 Pub.  Memorials may be directed to the Family and online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com .

Bill was a member of the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.  He was also a lifetime member of the American Numismatic Association. Bill and Irene spent most weekends during his working years attending coin conventions. This became their social life as they loved going and made many life-long friends.  Bill was a skilled pool player and a proud Irishman who loved to sing ballads. Irene and Bill experienced a life-long dream when they went on vacation to Ireland in 2000 with family. He had an amazing mind for history and could cite important dates as well as an uncanny ability to memorize and recite poetry.
