Ruth was an Iowa girl born and raised. She grew up on her parents farm in rural Cedar Falls where Ruth's hard work and determination was cultivated - along with a stubbornness that we all loved.
Ruth met her husband through her family. Vernon was one of the first soldiers drafted in Black Hawk County for the Korean War. To this day, Ruth still had the letters that Vernon had written her and her twin brother while he was overseas. Shortly after Vernon returned, the two were married and started a family and farm of their own.
She was a strong woman who loved her family and relished spoiling her grandchildren thoroughly. She was an outgoing person who enjoyed eating at local restaurants, cherishing the opportunity to talk with wait staff and fellow diners. She also liked going on day trips with her family to places such as the Amana Colonies or Dubuque. Over the years, Ruth enjoyed listening and singing along to polka and country and western music. She was an animal lover and treated her furry four-legged friends, Bud and Darcy, as though they were her children. The recent addition of Ruth's great granddaughters brought her tremendous joy in just sitting and snuggling them closely.
