Loren David Olsen, 72, of Cedar Falls, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
He was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on August 17, 1953, the son of Russell and Dorothy (King) Olsen. Loren graduated from the Iowa Schoof for the Deaf in Council Bluffs in 1971 prior to earning a certificate from Hawkeye Tech in machining. He worked for the Doerfer Company in Cedar Falls, Waterloo and Waverly as a machine builder, retiring in 2022 after 45 years.
On September 1, 1973, Loren married the love of his life, Deborah “Deb” Kayser in Council Bluffs. They were blessed with three children, Barry, Samuel and Jessica.
Loren was an active member of the Cedarloo Association of the Deaf, where he served in several positions. He was also a member of the Iowa Association of the Deaf. Loren was an avid college sports fan, especially of the Iowa Hawkeyes and UNI Panthers. He thoroughly enjoyed working on classic cars, watching NASCAR, and attending local drag races and stockcar races. He generously shared his time and talents, always willing to help family and friends in countless ways.
Loren is survived by his wife of 52 years, Deborah Olsen; children, Barry of Cedar Falls, Sam of Palm Bay, FL, and Jessica (Scott O’Donnell) of Hayward, CA; grandchildren, Ben and Brianna Olsen, and Molly and Kelly O’Donnell; brother, Steve (Jane) Olsen; and sister-in-law, Ginny Olsen. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Charles Olsen.
Loren’s celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 3-5pm at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Memorial contributions may be directed to his family for future designation. Please visit www.dahlfuneralhome.com to share condolences.
