He married Diane Weber on October 10, 1970, in Jesup and they had three children together, later divorcing. Jim married Teresa (Holmes) Grapp on February 3, 2001, in Las Vegas, NV.

Jim was known for his generosity, always willing to help others in need. He was a longtime member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Jim also had a talent for smoking meats. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by many.
