ZATHA M. RENNER, 103, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, August 11, 2006, at the Western Home Communities Stanard Family Assisted Living Center in Cedar Falls. She was born July 1, 1903 in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Fred W. and Florence (Hursh) Muir. Zatha was united in marriage to Burton F. Renner on October 8, 1921 at Washington Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Cedar Falls. Her grandfather, Rev. A. E. Hursh, presided over the ceremony. Burton preceded Zatha in death on July 19, 1973. Zatha went to school at Washington Township School #2, graduated from Cedar Falls High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1921. She taught school at Washington Township School #2 and boarded other teachers in her home. Her sons also attended the same school and later she became a school board member. Zatha was active in her church and was past president of the Washington Chapel Cemetery Association. She was an active member of the Black Hawk County Farm Bureau Women, was a member of the Janesville American Legion Auxiliary and was a 4-H leader.

Survivors include two sons, Dale (LaVonne) Renner of Toledo and Burton "Joe" (Marcia) Renner of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Sharon (Sid) Sickles of Guttenburg; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, John (Charlene) Muir, of Oak Park, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Dorothy McCoy of Cedar Falls, and two daughters-in-law, Carol Renner and Hazel Renner, both of Cedar Falls.

Zatha was preceded in death by her parents and husband, two sons, Robert and Clark Renner, and four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, August 15, 2006, at Washington Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Cedar Falls, with interment at Washington Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 8:00 pm Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family, a memorial fund will be established at a later date.
