Wilson W Smith

W. W. "Smitty" Smith, 98, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, July 16, 2011, at his home.   Smitty was born January 13, 1913, at Manchester, Iowa, the son of Milton & Maude (Wilson) Smith.  He married Esther Eibey June 28, 1936 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  She preceded him in death February 21, 1982.  He married Marcella "Sally" Cerwinske July 15, 1983 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  He was employed at S & S Firestone and then owned and operated Smitty's Tire & Appliance from 1953 until retiring in 1992.  He joined the Cedar Falls Lion's Club in 1945 and received the Distinguished Service Award in 1986 and the Warren Coleman Honorary Award in 1992.  He was also a member of the Cape Coral, Florida, Moose Lodge #2199.

Survivors include his wife, Marcella "Sally", of Cedar Falls; one son, Dick (Linda) Smith, of Cedar Falls; two stepdaughters, Donna Sheldon, of Waterloo and Faith Hope (Ray) Sonksen, of Waterloo; two grandchildren, Lisa (Jeremy) Schumacher, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Shelley (Kenneth) Lauritsen, of Cedar Falls, four step grandchildren, four great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.

Smitty was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one daughter-in-law, Terri Smith, and his sister, Velma Severn.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery.  Public visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the church.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
