William Collins Wood II, 74, of Cedar Falls, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, June 3, 2023. He was born in Lakeland, Florida, on September 14, 1948, son of Rev. William and ("Lois") Howell Wood. Bill graduated from West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, North Carolina in 1966, then attended Lenoir Rhyne University in Hickory graduating with the Class of 1970. He married fellow classmate, Linda Carol Mangum on December 27, 1969, at Hollands United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Bill, next, enrolled at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary receiving his Master of Divinity in 1974. He served Grace Lutheran Church in Winchester, Virginia for five years before enrolling at the University of Virginia where he earned an additional Masters Degree and his Ph.D. in 1984. Bill, then joined the faculty at Elon University in their School of Business. In 1987, Bill and Linda moved their family to Cedar Falls where he joined the faculty at the University of Northern Iowa. Eventually, Bill was asked to share his talents through UNI's Institute for Decision Making until his retirement in 2009.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, John Robert Wood. He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Linda; his children: Laura (Doug) Baker of Hamilton, Michigan, Pati (James) McConeghey of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Jonathan (Christianne) Wood of League City, Texas; grandchildren: William and Matthew Baker, Cecilia McConeghey, and Savanna and Sean Wood; his sisters-in-law, Marcella Wood of Hickory, North Carolina, and Barbara Watkins of Raleigh, North Carolina; and his nieces, Robynn and Ashely.
Bill's Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, June 10, 2023, in the Larsen Chapel at Nazareth Lutheran Church with an hour of Visitation prior (please use entrance #7 off University Avenue). Memorials should be directed to the charity or cause of donor's choosing and condolences can be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
Bill gave EVERYTHING with which he was involved his very best effort. He was "thoughtful" in every possible definition of the word. Bill loved the Lord and shared the Gospel through his actions as well as his words. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
