William "Bill" Arthur Ripplinger, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, September 22, 2013, at the Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center in Cedar Falls. He was born July 20, 1930 in Boyd, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur Michael and Reganot (Greene) Ripplinger. Bill married Jean Durchenwald on May 24, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked at John Deere & Company for twenty-nine years, retiring from the PEC in 1985. He was a member of the St. Patrick Knights of Columbus and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Survivors include his wife, Jean Ripplinger, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Mark Allen Ripplinger and Scott Edward Ripplinger, both of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Sally JoAnn Ripplinger and Mary Friedrich, both of Cedar Falls, and Cathy (Art) Chase, of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Andy Friedrich of Cedar Falls, David (Julia) Chase of Chula Vista, California, and Nicole and Allison Chase, both of Omaha, and a brother, Robert (Marion) Ripplinger, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Terry Friedrich. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 47:00 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where there will be a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service. Visitation also one hour before service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, St. Vincent De Paul, or the church.
