William “Bill” Joseph Pick, 79, of Cedar Falls, passed away peacefully at Cedar Valley Hospice House on Sunday, June 21, 2026. He was born in Breda, Iowa, on August 8, 1946, son of Donald and Willa Mae (Poen) Pick. Bill graduated from Breda High School and earned his Bachelor degree in teaching from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. He married Patsy Annette Ott on October 13, 1984, in Carroll, Iowa. Bill was an independent insurance agent for 53 years, working up until the days prior to his passing.
Bill was the kind of man who loved to listen to people and learn all about them rather than talk about himself. He officiated football, basketball, baseball and softball games and had been a Cub’s fan since 1956. He and Patsy traveled extensively and particularly enjoyed their cruises.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Ken Pick; aunt, Doreen (Ray) Polking; and a sister-in-law, Elise Pick. He is survived by his wife of over 41 years, Patsy; brothers: Joseph Pick of Carroll, Douglas (Rachel) Pick of Urbandale, Don (Margie) Pick Jr. of Ankeny, and Robert (Shelly) Pick of Lincoln, NE; sisters: Debra Marqusee of Iowa City; Kay Blessington (Gerry) of Auburn; and Diane Pick of West Des Moines; aunt Verma Jean Pick of Denison; Patsy’s siblings, nieces and nephews; and 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren from a previous marriage.
Bill’s family will host a Visitation from 9-11:00 am on Saturday, June 27, 2026, followed immediately by a Memorial Service at Candeo Church, 1405 Greenhill Rd, Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the House of Hope or Cedar Valley Hospice.
Bill’s family would like to express a special note of appreciation to Dr. Kwon and Dr. Chad Fleming of the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Suzanne Munns, and Cedar Valley Hospice for their attentive care and guidance through his lengthy illness.
