WILLARD L. CHILD, was born March 2, 1921 on the family farm near Masonville, Iowa the son of Ray & Sarah (Carrothers) Child. He married Emily Sacks October 10, 1944 at Kansas City, Missouri. She died December 30, 1993. Willard farmed until 1959 and was owner and operator of The Barn Café in Dike, Iowa for a year. Later, he was employed at the University of Northern Iowa in the maintenance department and then as a truck driver for the power plant. He held memberships in Solomon Masonic Lodge #594 in Lamont, Iowa and the American Legion Post #237 in Cedar Falls. Willard died Thursday, November 13, 2003 at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls at the age of 82 years.
Survivors include his son, Garald "Gary" (Diana) Child of New Hartford, Iowa; three grandchildren, Terri Zummak, Taunya Schipper, and Travis Child, five great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Willard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three infant daughters, and a sister.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2003 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with inurnment at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery at Masonville, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.
