Wilbert G. Leisinger, 77, of Waverly, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, of pneumonia at Waverly Health Center, Waverly, Iowa. He was born November 5, 1930 in rural Bremer County, near Waverly, Iowa, the son of Gustav and Marie (Mueller) Leisinger . Will married Audrey Rieckenberg on March 25, 1951 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. As a young man, he farmed with his father and then became a tenant farmer. Will served as a custodian at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, serving thirteen months in Korea. Following his discharge, he was employed at Cleveland & Herman Furniture Store for thirty years. Will then worked for the maintenance department at Wartburg College for eleven years. He also had his own insurance agency for thirty years, writing for First Maxfield Mutual of Denver, Iowa and Grinnell Mutual of Grinnell, Iowa.

Will is survived by his wife, Audrey Leisinger, of Waverly; two daughters, Kathy Gaulke of Iowa City and Debra (Val) Swinton of Clarksville; two sons, Douglas (Dawn) Leisinger of Waverly and Scott (Molly) Leisinger of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren, Trent Gaulke, Laura (John) Baer, Sam Swinton, Brandon Leisinger, Spencer Leisinger, Andrea Leisinger and Jacob Leisinger; one great grandchild, Drake Gaulke, and two brothers, Don Leisinger and Eldon (Beverly) Leisinger, both of Waverly.

He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, one infant grandson, his twin sister, Wilma Westendorf, parents, and his sister in law, Wanda Leisinger.

Will was interested in serving his fellow man and family. He enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts (Troop 69). He was a past commander of AMVETS Post 79, served as president of the PTA of St. Paul's School, and organized Christmas collections for the Salvation Army. Will especially enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2008, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, both in Waverly. Visitation will be from 4—8 p.m. Sunday, April 6 2008, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Christian Day School and to Wartburg College.
