Wayne P Ubben

Wayne P. Ubben, 76, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Dike, died from complication of Alzheimer's Disease on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center in Cedar Falls.  He was born  December 24, 1934 in Bristow, Iowa, the son of Harm and Marlys (Hearn) Ubben.  Wayne married Verla Kielman on June 21, 1955 at Bristow Reformed Church in Bristow.  Wayne graduated from Dumont High School and served in the U.S. Army.  He was co-owner of Raincap Industries, retiring in 2005.  Wayne was a charter member of Orchard Hill Reformed Church in Cedar Falls, where he served as treasurer, deacon and elder, and was a member of several church committees.

Survivors include his wife, Verla Ubben, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Sheryl (Greg) Dirks and Karla (Daryl) Downey, both of Reinbeck, Iowa; a son, Kevin (Sheri) Ubben, of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Kyle (Tracy) Dirks, Nick Dirks, Tyson Dirks, Chelsea (Nathan) Cheville, Alyssa Downey, Hayley Downey, Jacob Ubben and Jessica Ubben; two great grandchildren, Peyton Dirks and Jada Cheville; a brother, Robert (Janet) Ubben, of Missouri; a sister, Karen Elkins of Arizona, and a sister-in-law, Darlene Meints.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; an infant granddaughter, Brooke Marie Dirks; three brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.

Services will be 1:30 pm Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Orchard Hill Reformed Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls.  Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.  Visitation will be 4:00—7:00 pm Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before the service at the church.  A memorial fund will be established.  Online condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
