Walter R. Church, 79, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012. He was born on Sept. 29, 1932, in Boone, to Pearle and Rosemary Church. Walter grew up in Des Moines and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He attended Waldorf College and Drake University. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955. He later served in the U.S. Air Force, Des Moines, and was discharged in 1961. He married Evelyn Siepert Wiesley on Oct. 18, 1975. Walter was employed by AM International for 22 years. He later owned and operated Office Etc., Cedar Falls, through 1995. Walter and Evelyn moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1997, then moved to Springfield, Mo., in 2002. He was most recently employed by Enterprise Rental Cars, Springfield. He was the commander at American Legion, Cedar Falls, for five years and also was a member of Abou Ben Adhem Shrine in Springfield, Masons and Scottish Rite in Cedar Falls, and a member of Toastmasters International. Walter also was a member of Kings Way United Methodist Church and was a member of the choir. Walter is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children, Richard (Nancy) Church of Fairfield, Conn., Paula (Craig) Kresser of Bainbridge Island, Wash., Bonnie (James) Nemmers of Eagan, Minn., and DeeDee (David) Robeson of Grundy Center; and nine grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. One of his greatest enjoyments was the "cottage" at the Riverview Conference Center in Cedar Falls. Memorial services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls, where a Masonic service will be conducted and military honors by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Following the committal service, there will be a gathering of family and friends at Missionary Hall, Riverview Conference Center, Cedar Falls.
