Virginia Louise (Hansen) Willms, 94, formerly of Cedar Falls, passed peacefully into Jesus' loving arms on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Creekside Living in Grundy Center under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Virginia was born on April 11, 1930, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Walter and Iva (Childs) Hansen. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School with the Class of 1947. On June 12, 1949, she married Edward Willms at First United Methodist Church. Together, they raised a son and daughter, living first in Cedar Falls, then moving to Dike for approximately 10 years. They returned to Cedar Falls and Edd passed away in 1993.
Working in secretarial jobs, she was employed by Iowa State Teacher's College, Cedar Falls Utilities, Viking Pump and, finally, at J.S. Latta Co, retiring in 1982. She was a member of First Baptist Church most of her adult life where she was active in women's missions, circles and deaconess board. In her later years, she attended Trinity Bible Church. Virginia believed in Jesus Christ as her Savior, and her faith and strong independence saw her through the trials and triumphs of her long life!
Preceding Virginia in death are her parents; her husband; and an infant brother, Robert. She is survived by a son, Larry (Joyce) Willms; daughter, Cherri (Alan) Hills; grandchildren: Kevin (Laura) Willms, Liz (Ryan) Hansen, Jennifer (Drew) Pederson and Lauren (Dustin) Deery; great-grandchildren: Kate, Matthew, Caroline, Maisie, Ellerie, Dakota, Rory, Jase, Crosby, and Aden; sisters and brothers-in-law, Darlene Willms, Gloria Willms, Charles Smoldt, Don (Joann) Willms, Dean (Mary) Willms; and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia's Funeral will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, May 13, 2024, with Visitation one hour prior at Prairie Lakes Church of Cedar Falls. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery of Dike. Memorials may be directed to the Family for future designation.
