Virginia Mae Newgard, 82, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, July 6, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo. Virginia was born September 7, 1929, in Cedar Falls, the daughter of Folmer & Althea (Kyhl) Hansen. She married Robert Newgard August 24, 1950, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death December 9, 2005. Virginia received her B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa, was a music teacher for 30 years in the New Hartford School District, and farmed with her husband for 34 years. After retiring, she was employed at the Cedar Falls Wal-Mart for 15 years. Survivors include one son, James R. Newgard, of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Kathy (Scott) Cessna, of Cedar Falls; her daughter-in-law, Lola Newgard, of Decatur, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Lorraine Hatkowski, Eric Newgard, Alison Newgard, Christine Hardigree, Matthew Cessna, Kimberly Cessna, and Kyle Newgard; two great grandchildren, William and Sarah Hatkowski; her brother, Thomas Hansen, of Portland, Oregon and her sister-in-law Marilyn Hansen, of West Des Moines, Iowa. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Charles Newgard; one brother, Homer Hansen, and one sister-in-law, Mary Kay Hansen. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral home and one hour prior to service at the church.
