Virginia Ann Damgaard

Virginia Ann Damgaard, 91, of Cedar Falls, passed away peacefully at the Martin Suites on Sunday, July 20, 2025. She was born in Iowa Falls on October 8, 1933. The daughter of Herbert and Evelyn (Wightman) Hyde, Virginia was raised by her mother and stepfather, John W. Rosenberger, in Cedar Falls.

She married Cecil Stover on November 16, 1949, in Cedar Falls, then studied nursing at Hawkeye Institute of Technology. They had and raised three children together prior to his death in 1987. Virginia later married Ewald "Ozzie" Damgaard on February 25, 1989.

Virginia was a dedicated nurse for 22 years, working at both Allen Hospital in Waterloo and Shell Rock Healthcare Center. She retired in 1989. Her commitment to caregiving extended far beyond her profession—throughout her life, she lovingly tended to family, friends, and animals alike, offering kindness and compassion to all creatures great and small. She radiated sunshine, love and light.

In her spare time, Virginia enjoyed her grandchildren, caring for her horses, dogs and cats, dancing, playing cards and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and her brother, Rev. John "Sonny" Rosenberger.

Virginia is survived by her children: Rick Stover of Cape Cod, MA; Angela Stover of Cedar Falls; and Tamera (Mike) Wahl of Waterloo; her stepson, Thomas (Paula) Damgaard of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren: Ryan Day, Jason Day, Kaylee (David) Day, Kane (Dusty) Magee, Kacy (Rana) Magee, Jolene Malecek, Nikki (Josh) Wilkinson and Mitchell (Claire) Damgaard; twelve great-grandchildren: Wesley, Paige, Santiago, Lyric, Ava, Jack, Landon, Dean, Chase, Cruz, Walker and Maddie; and three sisters: Sally Robinson, Susannah Rice, and Mary (Max) Kough.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with one hour of visitation prior to the service.
