VIRGIL R.
CHRISTENSEN, 87, of New Hartford died Saturday, July 10, 2004 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. He was born January 11, 1917 in Cedar Falls, the son of Johnnie & Agnes Christensen. He married Margaret Reints March 22, 1947 at First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. She preceded him in death January 11, 2004. Virgil served in the United States Army during WWII. He had been employed with Clay Equipment for some time and also farmed with his wife, Margaret, in Butler County, Iowa for close to 50 years. Virgil was a 50 year member of the New Hartford American Legion and also served on the New Hartford School Board for 25 years. Virgil's passion was his horses.
Survivors include two sons, David J. (Laurie) Christensen of Bloomington, Illinois and Steve R. (Lonna) Christensen of New Hartford; three grandchildren, Dustin, Sarah & Matthew Christensen; and his only sister, Erma Colvin of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at United Methodist Church, New Hartford with Flag Folding Rites at the church conducted by the New Hartford American Legion. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the church.
