Viola Brocka

Viola Brocka, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Sartori Memorial Hospital. She was born February 22, 1921 in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Seede and Jesse (Hook) Mennen. Viola married Alfred Brocka January 8, 1942, at Aplington, Iowa. He preceded her in death February 20, 2004. They farmed near Kesley, Clarksville, and New Hartford and in 1966 they moved to Cedar Falls. Before her retirement, Viola held positions at University of Northern Iowa and Regents Café. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church. She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Cawelti, of Cedar Falls; two granddaughters, Jodie (Brad) Victoria, of Denver, Iowa and Janae (Gerald) Petersen, of Harris, Minnesota; four great grandchildren, Brock and Brielle Petersen, and Jordyn and Bailey Victoria. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son in law, Gary Cawelti; three brothers, Roy, Lester, and Jesse Mennen, and two sisters, Ann Oldenburger and Colleen Storbeck. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
