VINCENT L. BERNARD,
90, of Midville, Georgia and formerly of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004, at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. He was born March 31, 1914 in Gilbertville, Iowa, the son of Albert and Vestina (Hopper) Bernard. Vince married Evelyn Patava on October 19, 1935 at La Porte City, Iowa. He and Evelyn recently celebrated 69 years of marriage. Vince graduated from Gilbertville High School and worked for 47 years at Chamberlain Manufacturing in both Albia and Waterloo, Iowa, retiring as a supervisor in 1979.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of Midville, Georgia; four daughters, Donna Gay of Dallas, Texas, Geraldine (Jerry) Martinson of Cedar Falls, Vickie (John Anderson) Bernard of Midville, Georgia and Cynthia Perry of Cedar Falls; three sons, Vincent E. (Nyleta) Bernard of Palm Beach, Florida, Dennis (Sandra) Bernard of Waynesboro, Georgia and David (Emily) Bernard of Midville, Georgia; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bernadette Kayser of Oelwein, Iowa, Helene Wilhite of Cypress, California and Mary Warren of Mesa, Arizona, and two brothers, Robert (Eleanor) Bernard and Joseph (Aaron) Bernard, both of Waterloo, Iowa.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren, Todd Bernard, Vincent B. Bernard and Christie J. Bernard; two brothers, Mark and Bernard Bernard, and three sons-in-law, Laurel E. Gay, Bart Perry and Wayne Coker.
Memorial services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
