Vicki T. Combs

Vicki T. Combs, 73, Cedar Falls, died February 12, 2025 at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center.

Vicki was born March 25, 1951 in Cedar Falls to the late Virgil and Ethel (Blum) Abkes.  She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1969 where she was a student librarian and earned an Associate Degree from Hawkeye Community College.  While working for HyVee, Vicki met and married the love of her life, David Combs, on March 12, 1994 in Cedar Falls.  After working at HyVee for 25 years, the couple moved to Raleigh, NC where she grew their church's monthly rummage sale into a 10,000 sq. foot thrift store, Missions Thrift, that she managed until 2022 when the couple moved back to Cedar Falls.  Over the years, Vicki was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Vicki is survived by her husband of 30 years, David; puppies, Lizzie and Molly; daughters, Jackie (Brett) Heath of Cedar Falls and Dawn Anderson of North Liberty; granddaughters, Becca (Nick Whitmore) Burr of Joliet, IL and Renee Burr of Janesville; niece, Kristle (Jeremy) Bollans of Madison, WI; brothers, Clayton of Denver, CO, Douglas (Ione) of Waterloo and Bruce (Tracie) Abkes of Cedar Rapids; and extended family and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Ethel (Blum) Abkes; grandparents, Lester and Ethel McCombs and Theo and Alice Abkes.

The Memorial Visitation for Vicki will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM of Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls.  There will be a private family committal at Fairview Cemetery, Cedar Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice in Vicki's memory.
