Vernon Frederick Peters

Vernon Frederick Peters, 93, of Murphy, Texas, (formerly Janesville), passed away at his home on Thursday, December 18, 2025. He was born May 22, 1932, in Tripoli, Iowa, son of William and Bertha (Rathe) Peters. Vern attended school in Tripoli, then served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Vern married Verdeen Schlichting on Aug 22, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sumner, Iowa. He worked for John Deere for 30 years, retiring in 1985 as Supervisor of Welding and Maintenance.

Vern was preceded in death by William and Bertha, his parents; Verdeen, his wife of nearly 69 years; and 9 siblings: Leslie, Elmer, Erwald, Wilbert, Donald, LaVonne, Elston, Robert and Janice. He is survived by his children, Pam (Bob) Davis of Traer and Jeff (Shannon) Peters of Sachse, TX; 2 grandchildren, Ashley (Chris) Browder of Sachse, TX and Chris (Alexandra) Peters of Farmersville, TX; and 4 great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Kyndall of Sachse, TX, and Ava and Maverick of Farmersville, TX.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in the Larsen Chapel at Nazareth Lutheran Church with an hour of Visitation prior to the service. Vern will be inurned next to Verdeen at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly at a later date. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
