VERNON MIKKELSEN was born March 29, 1922 in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Niels Juhl and Anna Kristine (Jensen) Mikkelsen. He married Asta H. Jacobsen on June 27, 1948 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2001. Vernon served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was employed as a baker and later employed at Simpson Furniture in Cedar Falls. He died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Falls, at 79 years of age.
Survivors include his sister, Evelyn Knapp of Cedar Falls, and many nieces and nephews.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, L.S. Mikkelsen and Elmer Mikkelsen, and five sisters, Erna Jacobsen, Oda Knapp, Selma Johnson, Helga Mikkelsen, and his twin, Virginia Harrington.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2001 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial in Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls with military rites conducted by Cedar Falls American Legion Post #237. A memorial fund will be established.
