Vernon J. Haurum

Vernon J. Haurum, 84, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at NewAldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls. He was born July 22, 1927 in Cedar Falls, the son of Harvey and Ethel (North) Haurum. Vernon married Beverly Benham on February 14, 1948, and they later divorced. He married Hazel Jane Wolgamot on July 9, 1960 in Summers, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on December 15, 1997. Vernon was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a truck driver for many years at the Hudson Coop. Survivors include three sons, Rick J. Haurum of Waterloo, Randy R. (Thelda) Haurum of Marion, Iowa and Larry D. Haurum of New Hartford; a daughter, Becky (Jerry) Junge, of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Haurum, of Waterloo; fourteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren; a brother, Curtis Haurum, and a sister, Lois Chase, both of Cedar Falls. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and wife, a son, Vernon L. Haurum, and a grandson, Chad Michael Haurum. Services will be 11:00 am Friday, January 27, 2012, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Military honors will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Visitation will be 47:00 pm Thursday, January 26, and one hour before service, at the funeral home.
