Survivors include his twelve nieces and three nephews, Berdena Beach, Richard Hilton, Albert Nelson and Muriel Stephens, all of Cedar Falls, Mildred Reuter of Waterloo, Arlyne Lockard of Tucson, Arizona, Dorothy Sass of Washburn, Iowa, Marvel Blomberg of Rochelle, Illinois, Eloise Clark of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Helen McCarty of Burbank, California, Marlys Moodie of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Marcia Staebler of Cohasset, Minnesota, Carol Thompson of Monument, Colorado, Rex Watkins of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and Mary Ellen Winters of Rockford, Illinois.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents and wife; three brothers, Albert, Thorvald and Roland Nelson; five sisters, Anna Jorgensen, Helga Davis, Clara Hilton, Esther Watkins and Marie Hansen; and four nephews, Kenneth Nelson, Leon Hansen, Wendell Jorgensen and Orville Iverson.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, June 23, 2006, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4—6:00 pm Thursday, June 22, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the Lutheran Home Chapel. Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, or the charity of the donor's choice.
