Verla Jean Popenhagen

Verla "Jean" Popenhagen, 89, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center. Jean was born July 23, 1923 in Fayette, Iowa, the daughter of Dale & Willabeth (Sperry) Owen. She married Howard Popenhagen January 19, 1944 in Oelwein, Iowa. He preceded her in death March 3, 2005. Survivors include her son, Gayland (Dianne) Popenhagen, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Donna (Fred) Zmolek, of Dike and Bonnie Popenhagen, of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Miki Zmolek, Sadie (Brett) Speedy, Lisa Lines, Jeff (Tami) Popenhagen and Doug (Tina) Popenhagen; eight great grandchildren; and her sister, Cora Koons, of Elkader, Iowa. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brother, Milford Owen. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
