Thomas "Tom" Turner, 57, of Waterloo, died Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Allen Memorial Hospital. Tom was born August 20, 1950 in Waterloo, the son of Donald R. & LaVonne (Averill) Turner, Sr. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School and the University of Northern Iowa, earning a degree in speech pathology. Tom served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He married Merryl Rundall May 20, 2000 in Cedar Falls. Tom was employed at Tractor Supply Company in Waterloo since 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Merryl Turner of Waterloo, two sons, Craig (Greta) Southall of Indianola and Matthew Southall of Waterloo; one daughter, Jennifer (Casey) Drenner of Blue Springs, Missouri; two grandchildren, Clayton and Caleb Drenner; his mother, LaVonne Turner of Cedar Falls; three brothers, Joe (Pat) Turner and Don (Vickie) Turner, Jr., all of Cedar Falls, Jeff (Diane) Turner of Decorah, Iowa; and one sister, Cindy (Joe) Moody of Cedar Falls. Tom was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Robert Dean Turner, in infancy.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with military honors conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family or the Cedar Bend Humane Society
