Thelma Gutknecht

Thelma Gutknecht, 88, of Dike, Iowa, died Sunday, January 28, 2018 at her home in Dike.  She was born February 17,1929 the daughter of Emil and Julia (Bruhn) Bauer in Dumont. Thelma married William F. Gutknecht February 22, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson. He preceded her in death in 1995. Before her retirement she worked for Porters Photography. She fought a courageous battle  with cancer for 25 years.  She was very proud to be a homemaker. Thelma loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.

Thelma is survived by one son, Billy (Lori) Gutknecht, of Dike; two daughters, Barbara (Ron) Boyer and Sharon (Walter) Bauer, both of Brandon; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Courtney) Larsen, Chad (Penny) Bauer, Jennifer (Brad) Leuwerke, Jared (Heather) Gutknecht, Luke, Brett, and Marissa Gutknecht; five great grandchildren and two step grandchildren, Tina (Scott) White and Martin (Virginia) Boyer and their families; and one brother, Leonard Bauer, of Cedar Falls and one sister in law, Donna Dufel of, Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Gerald and Roger Bauer, one sister, Berniece Hesse, and one infant grand daughter, Hiliary Boyer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Hudson. Visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof funeral in Cedar Falls and one hour before services at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed Zion Lutheran Memorial Fund.
