Tena M. Klunder Berhends, 84, of Traer, Iowa formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, December 27, 2015, at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital in Waterloo. She was born August 7, 1931 in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Ella (Syhlman) Everts. Tena married Clarence Klunder on March 10, 1953 at Pleasant Valley Reformed Church near Fern, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 3, 1990. Tena married Warren Berhends on April 1, 1995 in Cedar Falls. She was a graduate of Dike Community High School and was secretary for Ann Barry, independent Shaklee representative, retiring in 1995 as a supervisor. Tena enjoyed reading, square dancing, and her family and friends.
Tena is survived by her husband, Warren Berhends, of Traer, Iowa; her son, Virgil Klunder, of Joelton, Tennessee; her daughter, Verna (Kevin) Adelmund, of Waterloo; two stepsons, Jay (Karla) Berhends and Baron Berhends; seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren; seven step great grandchildren, and a brother, Lester (Hazel) Everts, of Cedar Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, a brother, Alvin Syhlman, and a sister, Ella Eckhoff.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Fern. Visitation will be 4—8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
