TAVIA (BJERKESTRAND) MAAKESTAAD was born May 5, 1907 at Radcliffe, Iowa, the daughter of Torres and Anna Sophia (Ellertson) Bjerkestrand. She married Rev. Theodore Maakestad on August 23, 1940 at Radcliffe, Iowa. Tavia was an Obstetrics Nurse for many years. She died Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, at 94 years of age.
Tavia is survived by her husband, Rev. Theodore Maakestad of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Martha Anne Maakestad of Brooklyn, New York and Margit Joy Coltvet and her husband Rev. Ben Coltvet of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Nathaniel Coltvet and his wife Beth, Sarah DeVan and her husband David, Ben T. McDonald Coltvet and his wife Joy, and Rachel and Deborah Coltvet; two great-grandchildren, Marikka Joy and Adam Nathaniel Coltvet, and one sister, Gertie Knutson of Story City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Stephanie Maaketad; three brothers, Ole, Joseph and Lewis Bjerkestrand and two sisters, Esther Maakestad and Gladys Hove.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Radcliff Cemetery in Radcliff, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the church, the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, or Christian Crusaders.
