Tanya Jean Hanks

Tanya Jean Hanks, 54, of Waverly, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 23, 2025. She was born in Waterloo on December 23, 1970, daughter of Don and Marlys (Henning) Stoffregen. Tanya graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School with the Class of 1989 and earned her degree in Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa in 2008. She married Bret Wayne Hanks on May 16, 1992, at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. They later divorced. Tanya worked in various accounting positions through the years at Cuna Mutual Group, Terex Corporation and Unity Point Health.

Tanya was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Todd Stoffregen. She is survived by her children: Tanner Hanks of Seattle, Washington and Danielle Hanks of Waverly; 2 granddaughters, Aaliyah and Adalynn; siblings, Traci Brandt of Janesville and Tory Stoffregen of Massachusetts; and many extended family members and friends.

Tanya's Memorial Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church with Visitation from 5-7:00 pm on Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, both in Cedar Falls. She will be buried at a later date at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

Tanya was spunky, fun and loved to crack jokes.  She enjoyed visiting new places and trying new things – like skydiving. Tanya helped to care for her parents as they got older and, like her mother, was a cancer survivor. She loved her fur babies, but above all else, she cherished time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Tanya was a loyal friend, a supportive daughter and sister, a loving grandma, and a superhero of a mom.
