Listen to Obituary

Sue Ann Timmer, 55, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Sue was born December 27, 1953 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Velma (Holm) Timmer. She was employed by Linn County DHS in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as a case worker until 1999, when she was promoted to her current position as a Systems Analyst in Des Moines, Iowa.

Sue had great enthusiasm for life. She loved to travel, was an adventurer, was always ready for new experiences and celebrated her 50th birthday by convincing some of her friends to hike the Grand Canyon with her. She loved to laugh, loved her family and her many longtime friends and had a special place in her heart for Lake Kabetogama, Minnesota, where she spent many summer vacations with her buddies. Sue was a great advocate for Animal rights. Her constant companion, Murphy, a Shiatsu, was a rescue dog who found the best home of her life with Sue. As fate and God would have little Murphy passed away within days of her 'mommy'.

Sue is survived by two sons, Scott (Renee) Vogt of Iowa City, Iowa and Kevin Vogt of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren Alex, Logan and Janessa; her sister-in-law, Kathy Timmer, of Cedar Falls; four nephews and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Timmer, and her mother and step father, Velma and Everett Lutz, and her two brothers, Ray and Kenny Timmer.

Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Garden of Memories, Waterloo, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour before service. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane Society, 1166 West Airline Hwy, Waterloo, 50703, or the Cedar Valley Humane Society, 7411 Mt. Vernon Rd, SE Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403.
