Sreenivas V. "Shari" Chari, 67, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. He was born December 28, 1942 in Hyderabad, India, the son of Venkata and Ambuja (Devi) Chari. Shari married Peggy Egbert on June 25, 1976 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received his engineering degree from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India and his Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Shari worked at John Deere Waterloo Works for thirty-two years, retiring in 2009. He volunteered at the Hospitality House in Waterloo, Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls and Habitat for Humanity.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Chari, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Raja (Holly) Chari of Eglin AFB, Florida and Krishna Chari of Chicago, Illinois; a grandchild, Declan Chari; a brother, Gopal (Poornima) Viruptoor, of Hyderabad, India; four sisters, Indira (Raghavan) Vinjamur, Leela (Sampath) Chari, Revathi Mammillapalli and Ratna (Anand) Chakravarthi, all of Hyderabad; and an aunt, Janaki Devi, of Hyderabad.
Chari was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 3:00 pm Thursday, April 8, 2010, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1—3:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established. Online condolences may be left at
