Shirley A. Cuvelier, 85, of Waterloo, died Sunday October 19, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. She was born November 18, 1928 in Waterloo, the daughter of Ernest L. and Floy (Evans) Griffith. Shirley married Norlan J. Odem in 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were later divorced. She later married Duane C. Cuvelier on September 12, 1975 in Lancaster, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2013. Shirley was a waitress at Freeman's Café in Waterloo for thirty years and was a hostess at the Red Fox Inn in Waverly for three years, retiring in 1990. She is survived by three sons, Mike (Pat) Cuvelier of Keenesburg, Colorado, Steve (Karen) Cuvelier of Shell Rock, Iowa and Dean (Lynn) Cuvelier of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Linda (Scott) Turner, Kathy Cuvelier and Kimberly Schuler, all of Waterloo; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren; a brother, Leroy (Jan) Griffith, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and two sisters, Vivian Johnson and Barbara Kral, both of Waterloo. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and husband, a granddaughter, Sonya Cuvelier, and three sisters, Francis Chase, Beverly Gabbard and Beatrice Fuller. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Grace Reformed Church, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation will be 47:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
