Sandra Kay Goodwin, 87, of Waterloo (formerly Cedar Falls) passed away at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home on Thursday, April 2, 2026. She was born in Marshalltown on July 13, 1938, daughter of Kenneth and Bernice (Ridout) Hoskins. Sandra graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1956. She married Gerald Dean Goodwin on February 15, 1959, at the First Christian Church of Marshalltown. They moved to Cedar Falls for Gerald’s job in the early 70s and Sandra kept busy raising their children, then worked a variety of clerical positions in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. She retired in 2000.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; son, Steven; and sister, Sherry Burns. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Peter) Steinhauer of Reedsburg, WI; companion and travel partner, Paul Pechacek of Waterloo; grandchildren: Jessie Steinhauer of Washington, D.C., Alex (Talia) Steinhauer of Menomonee Falls, WI, Natalie Steinhauer of Washington, D.C. and Gillian Goodwin of Gilbert, AZ; 2 great-grandchildren, Theodore and Kade; and many dear friends.
Sandra’s Funeral will be at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Cedar Falls with Visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery of Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Sandra was a very caring person, always on the lookout for those she could help. She was an avid reader and loved libraries, which led her to be a life-long learner who was very well versed on a variety of subjects. Sandra dearly enjoyed traveling, first, with Gerald then with Paul after Gerald’s death. She was a quintessential energizer bunny who was happiest when she was on the go running errands. Sandra loved music and was a talented pianist! But above all else, Sandra had a deep and abiding faith and had been a very long term member at her beloved church.
