Ruth Ethel Haurum, 89, of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. She was born October 13, 1918 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ethel C. (Hugh) Strein. Ruth married Elmer S. Haurum on October 26, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1994. She owned and operated The Woodlawn Resort at Lake Ossawinnamakee, Minnesota, retiring in 2005. Ruth then moved to Waterloo to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Survivors include three daughters, JoAnn (Orran) Bane of Waterloo, Jean Haurum of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, and Lona Johnson of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Lori (Jeff) Life, Brent (Vanessa) Bane, Teresa (Jack) Johnson, Stephen (Lisle) Emerson, and Chris West; seven great grandchildren, Dylan, Corrina, Rian, Jacob, Jessica, Ranelle, and Michael; and a sister, Gladys Strein, of Moreno, California.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two brothers, Clifford and Albert Strein; and three sisters, Marcella Roettenbacher, Berniece Hubbard, and Margurite Fitzpatrick.

Visitation will be 4—7:00 pm Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 6:00 pm Prayer Service will be conducted. Interment will be 10:00 am Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake, Minnesota. Memorials may be directed to the family.
