Russell Dawson

Russell M. Dawson, 63, of Waterloo, died Friday, July 3, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born February 27, 1952 in Waterloo, the son of Harold "Dick" and Jeannine (Finger) Dawson. Russ married Kathy Gauger on April 10, 1976 in Waterloo. He was a graduate of Waterloo West High School and worked at Peters Construction and Cardinal Construction, retiring in 2014. Russ enjoyed his grandkids, volunteering with UCI in Haiti through his church, fishing and playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Dawson, of Waterloo; two sons, Robb (Jodi) Dawson of Zeeland, Michigan and Chad (Jessica) Dawson of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Joshua and Luke Dawson of Zeeland, Michigan and Mackenzie and Parker "Wee Buddy" Dawson of Cedar Falls; his mother, Jeannine Dawson, of Waterloo; two sisters, Sue Dawson and Karen Showalter, both of Waterloo; a brother, Rich Dawson, of Waterloo, and his mother-in-law, Grethe Gauger, of Waterloo. Russ was preceded in death by his father and his father-in-law, Cliff Gauger. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to United Christians International (UCI) in Haiti care of Orchard Hill Church, Cedar Falls.
