RUSSELL E. CONGDON, was born September 1, 1912 at Traer, Iowa, the son of Orville B. and Ethel Mae (Roberts) Congdon. He married Harriet Hartshorn on June 4, 1938 at Traer. Russell founded Congdon Printing Co. of Cedar Falls on March 1, 1966. He retired on February 11, 1996. Russell was a 50 year member of the Cedar Falls Lions Club. He served on the Cedar Falls Board of Education from 1950-1960. Russell was an active member of the Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the UNI President Club. He died Thursday, September 20, 2001, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, at 89 years of age.
Russell is survived by his wife Harriet; two sons, Ralph & Marcia of Davenport and Richard & Rita of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Craig, Christopher, Todd and Joel Congdon, Noelle Stow and Jenifer Barry; three great-grandchildren, Christian, Nicholas and Michael Stow, and three sisters, Ilo Williams and Gladys Thomas, both of Des Moines and Lois Trout of Noblesville, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruthal Fleming.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2001, at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lions Club and the church.
