RUBY GOODING NEWTON, 87, of 7511 University Ave. in Cedar Falls and formerly of Kenansville, North Carolina, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home after a lengthy illness. She was born October 17, 1913, in Kinston, North Carolina, the daughter of Stephen and Theresa (Oglesby) Gooding. Ruby attended Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, North Carolina. She married Enoch Alton Newton in Kinston. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1976. Ruby was a member of the Kenansville Methodist Church, the Woman's Missionary Society, the Eastern Star and the Kenansville Gardening Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally Morrow of Cedar Falls, Iowa; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a daughter, Gail Martin; one grandchild; three brothers and three sisters.
Graveside committal services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9 at Golden Grove Cemetery in Kenansville, North Carolina. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
