Royal H. Ledtje, 88, of Janesville, Iowa, formerly of Cedar City, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center in Cedar Falls. He was born February 26, 1925 near Gladbrook, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Alice (Brown) Ledtje. Royal married Caroline Christensen on December 14, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2011. Royal graduated from Waterloo West High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He worked at John Deere & Company for thirty-eight years, retiring as a Tool and Dye Maker in 1983. Survivors include three sons, Alan (Elizabeth) Ledtje of Cedar Falls, Kevin (Evelyn) Ledtje of Janesville and Rick (Karla) Ledtje of North Augusta, South Carolina; two daughters, Leanne Ledtje of Janesville and Sherri (John) Ritter of Rochester, Minnesota; ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; four brothers, Bob Ledtje of Elberon, Iowa, Warren Ledtje of Waterloo, Jim Ledtje of Independence, Iowa, Norman Ledtje of Waterloo, and three sisters, Doris Aasgard of Waterloo, Gertrude Connelly of Pennsylvania and Arlene Schares of Gilbertville, Iowa. Royal was preceded in death by his wife and parents, two brothers, Ronald and Wilbur Ledtje, and a sister, Esther Ledtje. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Cedar Bible Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 46:00 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church. A memorial fund will be established.
