ROY EMERY HOWELL was born January 27, 1928 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Emery Earl and Florence Ellen (Sparks) Howell. He married Darlene Joy King on July 30, 1950 in Waterloo, Iowa. She preceded Roy in death on December 26, 1988. Roy served with the U.S. Navy and worked at John Deere & Company in Waterloo for 36 years, retiring from Dept. 7B. He was a member of the Cedar Valley Woodworkers Association and enjoyed cooking. Roy died Sunday, December 28, 2003, at The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, at 75 years of age.
He is survived by his three sons, Roy Earl (Chun Jae) Howell of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Kevin Scott Howell of Cedar Falls and Bradley M. (Jill) Howell of Basehor, Kansas; his daughter, Marie Lynn (Martin) Drilling of Waterloo; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and four sisters, Ellen Hansen of Minnesota, Freda Mae (Earl) Hansen of Cedar Falls, Ardith Shull of Des Moines, Iowa and Carol (Don) Farrell of Cedar Falls. Roy was preceded in death by his wife and parents, a grandchild and a sister, Iva Howell.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Inurnment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Cedar Falls at a later date. A memorial fund will be established.
