Roy Paul Gibbs, 80, of New Hartford, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Center, Cedar Falls. He was born January 14, 1934 in New Hartford, Iowa, the son of John Martin and Martha (Shelton) Gibbs. Roy married Verna Mae Boroviak Juel August 15, 1953 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death February 16, 2012. He graduated from New Hartford High School in 1953 and worked for Viking Pump for forty years, retiring in 1999. Roy was a volunteer for the New Hartford fire department. He was an avid Hawkeye fan using television and radio at the same time during their games. He is survived by three sons, Les (Wendy) Gibbs, of Shell Rock, Jeff (Denise) Gibbs, of Cedar Falls, David (Carie) Gibbs, of Appleton, Wisconsin; four daughters, Kim (Bill) Otte, of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Sara (Alan) Tholl, of Claxton, Georgia, Lisa (Matt) Verbeck, of Cedar Falls, and Jennifer (Shawn) Weber, of Grundy Center; seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; four brothers, Don (Verna) Shelton, of Cedar Falls, Kenny (Brenda) Pollock, of Denver, Richard and James Gibbs, both of Waterloo; one sister, Vera Bast, of Manassas, Virginia; three sisters in law, Earlene Heins and Karen Shelton, both of Cedar Falls, and Myrna Shelton, of Tucson, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Verna of 59 years, one daughter in law, Kristi Gibbs; eight brothers, Frank, Harold, Marvin, Robert, Melvin, and Eugene Shelton, John and Jack Gibbs; three sisters, Lorain and Alice Shelton, and Mabel Brown. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the New Hartford United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in New Hartford. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls and one hour before services Saturday at the church.
