PROFESSOR EMERITUS ROY CHUNG, 73, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Friday, September 27th from stomach cancer, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. He was born April 6, 1929 in Jamaica, the son of James and Ivy (Acquie) Chong. Roy was a lieutenant in the British Cadet Corps in Jamaica and later immigrated to the United States. He married Beatrice Cruz on October 8, 1960 in Madison, Wisconsin. Roy received his B.S. and M.A. in Geography from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he was a graduate assistant. He was a professor in the Geography Department at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls for 42 years and was a professor in the Geography and Social Sciences Departments at the University of Guam for 3 years. Roy spent several summers at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was a member of the American Association of Geographers and the United Faculty at the Univ. of Northern Iowa. Roy is survived by his wife, Beatrice, of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Kerisa (Bruce) Baedke of Clive, Iowa and Deanne Chung (Bradley Olson) of Chicago, Illinois; three sons, David (Janice) Chung of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Brian (Rebekah) Chung of Clive, Iowa and James Chung of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Ivilyn Dee Chung and a brother, Leslie James. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Treatment Center, 200 E. Ridgeway Ave., Waterloo, IA. 50702.
