Roxieann M. "Roxie" Boss, 96, of Cedar Falls, died peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Pinnacle Specialty Care in Cedar Falls.
Roxie was born April 27, 1927, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of William and Edna (Smith) Yeoman. As a child, she would spend much of her time hanging around the Yeoman & Company factory that manufactured gardening tools and snow shovels, a business that her father started. Her brothers would eventually come to take over the family business. After graduating high school in Monticello, Iowa, Roxie would go on to earn an Associate's Degree at the Iowa State Teachers College. Rather than pursuing a life as a teacher, she would marry at the age of 20 and immediately start a family with her husband, Herman, and eventually raise 3 boys, Russell, Bill, and Mark. Roxie's life was rich with outdoor activities including camping and fishing wherever the weekend would take them. She also enjoyed gardening on their acreage just north of Cedar Falls. Later in life, when the boys had moved on to their own lives, Roxie and Herman would start going to The Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota where they would canoe, camp, and fish for days. It would become one of her favorite places to spend time with friends and family. In 1985, Herman would succumb to a stroke that left him bound to a wheelchair. But this didn't stop Roxie. She would take over as the driver of their 1978 Chevy Suburban and take Herman to South Texas every winter towing their camper where they would create new friends and adventures. After Herman died in 1991, Roxie would continue to travel in her old rig. Whether she was hauling to New York to spend a summer at a church camp helping with cooking and dishes, or Northern Minnesota to help a friend bring in vegetables from their large produce farm, it was very apparent that an adventurous Roxie would not let the grass grow under her feet. If her life were to be judged by a bank account, Roxie would be but a pauper. If you judge her by her adventurous spirit and grit, she is Royalty.
Roxie is survived by her 3 sons, Russell K. (Esther) Boss, William J. (Claudia) Boss, and Mark D. (Carla) Boss; 6 grandchildren, Dean Raubs, Drew Boss, Megan Trembly, Sean Boss, Kyler Boss, and Carly Boss; 15 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Yancey Boss; and 3 brothers, Willard, Orvin and Harold Yeoman.
Roxie's family will host an Open House Celebration of Life on what would have been her 97th birthday on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 4-6pm, at The Ridges Clubhouse, 619 Lake Ridge Dr, in Cedar Falls. Memorial contributions in Roxie's honor may be directed to The Living Water Church of the Nazarene, 1210 Lone Tree Rd, in Cedar Falls.
