Rosalie Teresa Daigle Compton, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, September 7, 2012, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Waterloo. She was born June 16, 1922 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Albert Homer and Agnes Gertrude (Lyons) Daigle. Rosalie married Major Charles Lester Compton in 1947 in Springfield. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1998. She received her degree in French from university in Springfield and worked at the Springfield Armory and later was a Japanese code-breaker in California during WW II. After the war, she worked briefly for the YMCA in Springfield and later was in charge of the ICU at Mariners Hospital in Plantation Key, Florida and was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Compton, Sr. of Cedar Falls and Mark L. Compton of Springfield, Missouri, three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents and husband, two brothers, Paul and Albert "Pete" , and three sisters, Dickie, Dorothy and Ruthie. There will be no services or visitation. Her cremated remains will be scattered on Dove Key, off the shores of Key Largo, Florida, at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the UNI Foundation, 205 Commons, Cedar Falls, IA 50614-0282.
