Ronald Ray Kuhlman, 72, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, following complications from a stroke. Ron was born November 1, 1940, in Hubbard, Iowa, the son of Ervin & Leora (McDonald) Kuhlman. He married Barbara Purvis June 15, 1963, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Ron earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Northern Iowa. He taught at Southeast Polk and Kirkwood College, served as Personnel Director for the City of Cedar Rapids and Hawkeye Community College, and taught ACT/SAT test preparation classes for Zaps Learning Company. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and singing in the church choir. Ron and Barb celebrated their 50th anniversary early with a trip to the ancestral Kuhlman farm in Germany last October. Survivors include his wife, Barb Kuhlman, of Cedar Falls; three sons, Greg (Julie) Kuhlman, of Robins, Brian (Rebecca) Kuhlman, of Waterloo and Ken (Diane) Kuhlman, of Marion; one daughter, Julie (Mike) Agey, of Norwalk; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren, Alex (Erin), Nuala Looney; Duncan Looney; Katie, Madison Kuhlman. Blake, Colin, Jenna, Luke Agey. Hilary (Chad), Adelyn, Owen, Aubree Markin, Nate (Stephanee), Kendall, Kody Johnson, Lucas Wagner; and one sister, Lois (Bob) Petersen, of Chaska, Minnesota. Ron was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at The United Church of Christ, Cedar Falls. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and one hour preceding the service at the church.
