After battling cancer for fifteen years Ron passed away peacefully at his home in the Western Home Communities of Cedar Falls. He was surrounded by his loving family including his wife of 64 years, Trenna, and their three children.
Ron was born in Galesburg, Illinois, as the only child of Goldie (Johnson) and Sidney King. After graduating from Galesburg High School he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Dentist's Technician on the USS Princeton from 1955–1958. After his honorable discharge he attended Western Illinois University where he met his future bride. In 1960, after just two years of undergraduate study, he was accepted into the University of Iowa School of Dentistry based on his academic excellence. In August of 1960, he married Trenna Carol Ray of Bloomington, Illinois. Ron graduated with a Doctor of Dental Science degree from the University of Iowa in 1964 and moved to Cedar Falls.
Ron practiced dentistry for fifty years; in Cedar Falls from 1964 to 2002 and then part time in Waterloo until 2014. He truly loved his chosen profession, the people he worked with, his patients, and the many friendships he made within the dental community. Ron was a member and past president of both the Black Hawk County and Waterloo District Dental Societies and served on the advisory committee for the HawkeyeTech Dental Assistant Program. He was honored as a Fellow in the American Academy of General Dentistry.
Ron fully embraced the community that he grew to love and was very involved in multiple service and civic organizations. He served as a Board member of the Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce and as a Chamber Ambassador. Ron was a member and past President of the Cedar Falls Jaycees and has been a member of the Lions Club since 1964 serving as a past President and receiving multiple distinguished awards. Being in the Sturgis Falls parade as a rider on the Lions Club Bicycle Built for Ten was a highlight of Ron's summer. He was also an active member of Nazareth Lutheran Church.
Ron was a passionate and avid golfer who made many wonderful friendships through the game he loved. He was recognized as one of the longest tenured members of Beaver Hills Country Club, which he joined in 1968.
Ron was a loving, kind, and caring husband, dad, and grandpa. He always approached life with humor and a positive attitude and will be missed so very much. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Trenna C. King (Cedar Falls); his children: Scott King (Atlanta, GA), Kathryn Dussold (Naples FL; Fairway, KS) and Steven King (Los Angeles, CA); grandchildren: McKenzie King, Mallory King, Mason King, Jack Dussold and Paige Dussold.
Ron's memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 15th, 2024, at Nazareth Lutheran Church with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lions Club or Nazareth Lutheran Church.
