Roland Dean Broell, 87, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, September 11, 2015, at Cedar Falls Health Care Center. He was born June 27, 1928 in Waterloo, the son of Guthrie and Gladys (Tournier) Broell. Roland married Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Digmann on January 17, 1952 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2010. Roland attended Lowell Elementary School in Waterloo and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He worked at John Deere in Waterloo for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. Roland was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 for many years, serving on the honor guard. He is survived by two sons, Thomas (Joyce) Broell of Cedar Falls and Nathan Myers of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; three daughters, Lisa Myers of Winthrop, Iowa, Angela (Gabe) Benson of Waterloo and Nancy Myers of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Travis (Mandy) Broell, Jilliann Ender, Decota (John) Brustkern, and three great grandchildren, Grace and Tayten Broell, and Kayelee Rasavong. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, Robert Downs and Raymond Broell. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2015, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Waterloo, with burial at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery in Jesup, Iowa. Military honors will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation will be 4 - 6 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls and one hour before service at the church. Memorials may be directed to SHD Post 730 Honor Flight, Cedar Valley Hospice or the family. Condolences may be left at www.DahlFuneralHome.com.
