Listen to Obituary

Roger Lee Timmer, 79, of Cedar Falls, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Waterloo. Roger was born in Cedar Falls on August 25, 1944, the son of Sander and Ruth (Vognsen) Timmer. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1962 and worked as an auto mechanic when he enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1962-1965. Following his honorable discharge, Roger continued working as an auto mechanic until starting a career as a commercial painter. He also helped build the drag strip at the Cedar Falls Motorsports Park north of town. Roger retired from Michael Painting in 2006.

Roger developed a knack for hunting at an early age. His family were big hunters and enjoyed hunting pheasant, deer, ducks, coyotes, fox, you name it. Roger continued this tradition with his own family and extended family, hunting with his son, Randy, and grandson, Jamie, especially for pheasant. He also loved to fish locally with his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed traveling to Okoboji with his partner, Barb. Roger also enjoyed working on classic cars and motorcycles, and passed down his brother Harry's '66 Norton for Randy to work on. What he loved the most was his family. He was proud to support his family and would try to attend every event. Roger made an effort to attend every trap shooting meet of Jamie's, even meets out of town. Roger was best known for was his constant teasing, witty sense of humor, and the nicknames he gave to nearly everyone he knew. He will be greatly missed.

Roger is survived by his two children, Angie Schmidt of Waverly, and Randy Timmer (Lynn Nagle) of Janesville; one grandson, Jamie (Makayla) Schmidt; partner of over 30 years, Barb Giunta of Cedar Falls; Barb's two daughters, Laurie Giunta and Lisa (Nic) Simpson; Barb's grandchildren, Karlee Pagano and Ryan Giunta; and one sister, Vicki Bravender of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Harry Timmer.
