Roger Holeman, age 77, stepped into eternity on August 8th at Allen Hospital—the same place he was born on November 15, 1947. He was raised on a 320-acre farm 3 miles south of the Grundy Center cemetery. He was a Baby Boomer whose father served in the Army Air Corps in WW2. He trusted Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1956 at the Iowa Regular Baptist camp. He graduated from Grundy Center Community High School in 1966, and then from Faith Baptist Bible College in 1971 with a double major in Music and Bible. He was married to Linda Anne Jelsma (of Union IA.) from June 10, 1967, until Linda's passing on August 10th of 2017—OVER 50 YEARS! They raised, discipled and loved two children. On December 28th of 2018, he married Patricia Gentz. Together they enjoyed traveling to many states (including Hawaii), spending time with grandchildren, and their life at Riverview Conference Center.
For 24 years, He taught music in private Christian schools in Colorado, Alabama, and Indiana (Villa Baptist Academy). In 1979, the Lord opened a door for him to teach at Walnut Ridge Baptist Academy in Waterloo, IA.—only 35 miles from where he grew up. He and Linda were ecstatic to move back to their home state.
Eventually, he took a maintenance position at Hawkeye Community College.
His surviving children are Pastor Mark (Jann) Holeman of Kalamazoo MI., and Mindi (Mark) Williams of Waterloo IA. His stepchildren are Brooke (Aaron) Sluiter of Polk City, IA and Mikaela (Aaron) Harlow of Columbia, TN. He is survived by nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Marj Holeman, and sister Paulette Holeman.
Memorials may be directed to Cedar Ridge Christian School .
