Roger O Gutknecht

Roger O. Gutknecht, 94, of Dike, died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at his home. He was born April 7, 1917 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Louis & Ella (Runge) Gutknecht.  He married Patricia Bird Kent September 22, 1962 in Decorah, Iowa.  Roger farmed in the Dike area until retiring in 1980.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of Dike; two sons, Dennis (Barb) Gutknecht of Cedar Falls and Phil (Carol) Gutknecht of Redlands, California; seven daughters, Delores (Joe) Ridder of Eldora, Bev (James) Ferguson of Georgetown, Texas, Margie (Steve) Pries of Nashua, New Hampshire, Peggy Knight of Arlington, Texas, Mary Jo (Dennis) Grandon of Wellsburg, Iowa, Marlys (Jay) Sharp of Wake Forest, North Carolina and Paula (Charles) Carter of Centerville, Iowa; 31 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary; one grandson, Chad Gutknecht; and one sister, Pauline Multhauf.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, both rural Hudson. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour prior to service time at the church.
